Coastal Communities Empowerment Through Problem-Based Learning Entrepreneurship Trainingin Maluku Province

Abstract

This research was conducted in conjunction with the incessant attention to community empowerment in many countries in the world. People who work as farmers and fishermen who inhabit coastal areas in Maluku Province are less touched by community empowerment programs. They are often blamed, but are not trained to develop their businesses. This article presents the impact of entrepreneurship training through problem-based learning including: their learning needs, knowledge, skills, and attitudes, as well as the motivation to develop the business in a sustainable manner. This research develops questions that arise from problems in entrepreneurship training through problem-based learning. Training participants are members of coastal communities who are interested in becoming successful entrepreneurs. The main informants were 16 training participants and 2 instructors, each of whom had professional competence in the field of entrepreneurial management and non-formal education. Data collection through focus group discussion (FGD) and semi-structured interviews and non-participant observation and document study at their place of business. Using interactive model data analysis techniques (Miles, M. B. & Huberman, A. M. 1994). This study framed entrepreneurship training through problem-based learning as a process for the formation of new trainees' abilities, skills and learning experiences. The learning experience is the basic capital for sustainable business development.
